Dashoguz, Turkmenistan – On November 10, 2024, the USAID Central Asia’s Regional Water and Vulnerable Environment (WAVE) Activity participated in the Youth Eco-Festival held at the Dashoguz Velayat Library. The event attracted more than 200 participants and was organized by the NGO "ECODURMUSH" in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, the Ministry of Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the American Corner in Dashoguz, and the NGO “Yashyl Shohle”.

The event focused on key regional environmental issues such as the drying up of the Aral Sea, desertification, and the challenges of agribusiness in the context of climate change. The program included thematic film screenings, interactive games, competitions, and master classes. Additionally, an exhibition showcased eco-friendly products, traditional clothing, and student scientific projects. The event was held as part of the year dedicated to “The Wisdom of Magtymguly Pyragy1” and aimed to raise youth awareness about climate change and environmental issues, as well as equip them with basic skills to address these global challenges.

During the festival, WAVE representatives presented their activities in the Dashoguz Velayat, highlighting gender initiatives implemented in Turkmenistan. A quiz on environmental issues was also conducted, actively engaging young participants.

Notably, the Nexus game was also introduced at the event. Currently, the game is being distributed across Central Asian countries by the USAID Regional WAVE Activity and the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (CAREC). The game aims to increase knowledge about water resources and environmental protection among students and young people, encouraging their involvement in tackling the region's pressing issues.
