Competition for Youth from Central Asian Countries within the "Turn It Around: Central Asian Climate Cards Deck" Project

Join us in creating a unique Climate Card Deck to reimagine the challenges of climate change education through art and text! If you are from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, or Uzbekistan, you have the opportunity to express your views on environmental issues and to propose solutions. Your art and/or words could be selected for this creative project! 

The Central Asian Analytical Center CAPS Unlock, in partnership with the UNESCO Regional Office (Almaty) and in collaboration with the Central Asian Alliance for Climate Education (TsAKO), is pleased to invite children and young people to enter your creative work to the "Turn It Around: Central Asian Climate Cards Deck" competition. 

Project Goal: The aim of the project is to develop a unique Central Asian Climate Card Deck that puts forward the ideas, concerns and priorities of young people on climate change through art and text. The project seeks to engage young people from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan in creating materials that reflect your views on environmental and climate problems and your vision for solutions. 

Competition details 

Themes for Submissions: 

  • The impact of energy production on climate change (Climate and Energy) 

  • The effects of climate change on water supply, food production, and ecosystems in Central Asia 

  • The relationship between all living beings and their changing habitats (Human Nature Relations and their impact on the environment) 

  • Community life and their harmony with nature 

  • Climate change and biodiversity (flora and fauna) 

  • What we can do to slow down climate change 

  • The importance of natural ecosystems 

  • Youth climate activism 

  • Natural disasters and us 

  • Sustainable living for everyone 

Eligibility Criteria: 

  • Children from preschool organizations, students from urban and rural schools, university students, and young activists from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and 

  • Uzbekistan. Age limit: up to 25 years old. Equal participation of boys and girls is encouraged. 

  • The constest will be held in two categories: 

  • Creative works (drawings, photographs, mandalas, collages) 

  • Texts reflecting visions of climate issues 

  • Submissions will be accepted in Russian, Kazakh, Tajik, Kyrgyz, Uzbek, and English. 

  • Each author may submit only one artwork and one text, or one artwork, or one text. 

Important Dates:  

1. Submission of works from November 1, 2024 to January 31, 2025. 

2. Final selection of cards from February 1 to March 30, 2025. 

Submission Process: 

The use of AI to create competition works is strictly prohibited!!! 

1. Fill out the online application at the link https://capsunlock.org/?page_id=1001   

2. Attach your drawing or text. Please note the following:  

Art works should be submitted in JPEG or PNG format (up to 20 MB), with a minimum resolution of 2800 x 3500 pixels (preferably portrait orientation) and a 

density of 300 DPI. All works (except photographs) must be scanned. 

Text: A short text (maximum 150 words) must be submitted in one of the following languages: Kazakh, Tajik, Kyrgyz, Uzbek, Russian, or English. 

Appendix No. 1 provides promts for creating creative works and texts. 

Evaluation Criteria: 

1. Originality, concept, and aesthetic value of the work. 

2. Relevance of the issue to the region or country. 

3. Compliance with local culture, traditions, and national characteristics. 

Prizes for Finalists: An international certificate confirming your authorship as well as your work being displayed in an international collection of selected works. 

Final works will be included in the unique climate card deck "Turn It Around: Central Asian Climate Cards Deck," which will serve as an important resource for teaching and discussing climate change in educational settings and at the national policy level.
